GIVING BACK to ONE DESERVING 2010 SENIOR

One of the most exciting and rewarding aspects of running Marci Ralph Photography is being able to practice the art of giving back. There are many  people in our country struggling for the basic necessities of life. There are many high school seniors out there who will not have the senior pictures they have always dreamed of, some…no senior pictures at all.

Charity is not always about providing money but sometimes looking at your assets and finding a need that you can fill with a service you can provide. We are so blessed to be able to do what we love and support our families through our studio. We really want for someone who can’t really afford what we do, to get to experience what we do and the pictures that are the lasting reminder of this time in their lives. The central Indiana community of high school seniors and their parents has been very generous to us over the last few years and it is time for us to return the favor. We will be offering our first annual Give Back Award for one deserving senior graduating with the Class of 2011. The Give Back Award will cover a classic 1-2 hour portrait session and a portrait package valued at $600.

If you are an high school senior, it is time for senior portraits. Senior pictures is one of the many rites of passage that most high school seniors look forward experiencing during their senior year. For most seniors it is just a matter of deciding on the perfect studio and booking an appointment. But, some students don’t have the opportunity to make that choice. There are a variety of reasons that can keep seniors from being able to have the portraits they are dreaming of… maybe mom or dad have been laid off, maybe there was a catastrophic event in your household, maybe a medical issue that has caused a financial set back.   With the economy as it is, there are families who are experiencing financial setbacks or personal circumstances keeping the senior pictures that they have been dreaming of on the back burner. Maybe it is even bad enough that it is just not going to happen at all. I would like to remove this obstacle for one deserving senior from the Class of 2011.

Deserving seniors can apply for themselves and tell us why they should have this opportunity or maybe you know a senior who is too humble to step out of the box and tell their story… in that case fell free to nominate that senior.

Applications are being accepted now through APRIL 15th, 2010. Just use the contact form above. We need the name of the student, the high school they attend, at least a couple of paragraphs of the story relating why they deserve this award. We will review the entries and will announce the 2010 senior who will receive the the Giving Back Award on our blog by May 1st, 2010.

Being ECO-FRIENDLY JUST MAKES SENSE! / Indiana Senior Pictures

Good morning world! It’s going to be a beautiful spring day in central Indiana and a great day to be alive and enjoy life! Spring to me always means a fresh start, a time to change things up and make things better!

You know, probably the greatest thing about owning your own business is how much control you have over everything. There are no bosses to negate what company policy is or how we should do things. We get to take personal responsibility for those things. Making our work-life more environmentally friendly can also be a more efficient way of getting our information into the hands of our clients. It’s a win for the planet, a win for us and more importantly a win for you, our clients. Having our information and portfolio accessible 24/7 online via our website has been at the top of my list since starting this business, wow, quickly approaching the 10 year mark. Starting now, we are taking things one step further buy presenting our studio brochures and product offerings in an online format.

You will be presented with a couple different versions of our easy to navigate, online magazine style brochure. Under the pricing tab here on the blog [and below] you will find our PRICE GUIDE with pricing and basic studio information. Once you have made the choice to book your session we will send you links to our STYLE GUIDE where you will find our guide on What To Wear, Tips, Frequently Asked Questions and even a store list of online and real world places to buy lots of great fashions to rock out your session with us. Then there is our STUDIO BROCHURE where you can view pricing along with a more detailed view of the frames and other products we offer.

Each version of our online brochure will also feature cover images of our clients. These covers will be changed out from time to time, much like the different covers of a monthly magazine with new cover girl images. So as a client… keep an eye out, you could be one of our COVER MODELS!!! Congratulations to our three inaugural COVER GIRLS, Hannah File of Fishers, Nicole Holmqvist from Plainfield High School and Ryann Bentley from Cathedral High School.

NEWS AND A SNEAK PEEK / FISHERS INDIANA MODEL

It’s been a little while since I’ve done a blog post! It’s about time, isn’t it? We’ve gotten more updating, backdrops and painting done at the “new” studio. Both of our new dressing rooms are decorated and usable. We just recently added to our accessories and wardrobe hallway with some fun and fashionable items.

A big congratulations goes out to Hannah File of Fishers, Indiana for setting her sites high and going after her dreams of modeling and doing some competition pageants She believes in going all out…..winning multiple titles at the Dreamgirl USA Pageant. Hannah is the Indiana State Supreme Runway Model Queen, State Division Runway Model winner, State Division Most Photogenic winner, and State Overall Best Essay Winner.

Sixteen year old, Hannah, is also the winner of the Centerfold Model Photo for the State Pageant Program with this image from her first session with us back last summer.

This Fishers High School sophomore has done several runway fashion shows for local and national designers and is the reigning Miss Fishers. Congratulations Hannah! We are so proud of you and wish you good luck when you attend the National Dreamgirls Pageant later this year in St. Louis.

We were happy to get a message from Hannah’s mom to schedule updating her model and head shot portfolio. We met at the studio on a rainy Saturday and played with our new beach backdrop, antique doors, up in the store windows, on our new underground graffiti backdrop and even out on the rain! It’s always fun wen the File clan comes calling. It was great to meet one of Hannah’s good freinds, Sierra. She was great help with Hannah as well as a trooper when it came to holding the umbrella over my camera while we ran out to play in the street in the rain. Thanks Sierra!!!

…isn’t she just a doll!?!?! and umm sixteen year olds should not be looking so mature and gorgeous! But Hannah is as sweet as she is pretty and a lot of fun to be around.
Enjoy the sneak peeks

FLASH BACK to SUMMER 09 / Indianas Best Senior Photographer

Another fun video from one of my favorite sessions from this past summer.. I guess I am getting ready for spring and longing for it’s warm days to wrap it’s arms around me. Columbus North Senior, Rebecca, was one of those girls that steps in front of the camera and it is just so at ease it makes my job so easy. She brought a great variety of clothes from casual to prom. We realy had a great time!

This is a great example of our Super Model Sessions. We shot the first half at the Studio Backlot and then moved over to do her last two clothing changes at the Studio Loft in town. This way you get a little of both the indoor and outdoor.

Taylor / Senior Video / Indy Senior Photographer

Turn up the volume and check out this awesome SENIOR video starring the beautiful Taylor Pruitt from Whiteland High School- class of 2010!

and one from her studio portion of the session on our fashion magazine set… Isn’t she gorgeous!?!!!

FLASH BACK . NICOLE / Indianapolis Senior Pictures

I’ve been going through old files and came across tons of old sessions that I did back before I had a blog. So I thought I would just do flash backs from time to time just to reminisce and share some of those sessions. Meet Nicole…

Style File/ Do you Polyvore?

Hey Seniors! By now I am sure many of you know about Polyvore.com. Polyvore is a free, easy-to-use web-based application for mixing and matching fashion items- shoes, shirts, coats, jeans, dresses, skirts, purses, lipstick, polish, etc. – from anywhere on the web. It is also a community of creative and fashionable people! W

I was just thinking that with Polyvore, our seniors can put together coordinated outfits for your senior session, it’s like playing paper dolls! You find things you already have and mix them with a few wish list items for your senior session. it’s allot of fun to play with layouts and find just the right things. Kind of a dream board of what you might want to wear for your senior session. One of my favorite things I have seen done there is to put together – Splurge or Steal- sets. Click here to see a page of different styles of layouts. Go play and have fun creating some look ideas for your session. If you create something you really love and think would be great for a session look, be sure to email us a link. We wanna see!

Today, I am in LOVE with this plaid jacket! It would be a great look with the truck at the Studio Backlot or in the Industrial set at the Studio Loft, or just on the gray studio drop for some punch!

And how about this great little outfit with the TWILIGHT inspiration?
L O V E the top! and the shorts. and the shoes. yup.

That’s all for now. Happy Polyvore-ing!

PROJECT RUNWAY / It’s baaaaaaack!!!!

Who else has been waiting for this show to appear on their living room screens again? I just love it! Now, I am intrigued by this show for several reasons. #1. I can’t sew, even though my mom and at least one of my sisters are quite accomplished seamstresses. My mom was a home economics and sewing teacher, with a daughter that can’t sew a stitch. hehe What these people can do with this fabric just amazes me! #2. I’ like to do fashion shoots with these clothes! oh yes! New show idea to come on after Models of the Runway would be Photographers of the Runway Fashions. Photographers could compete to be the photographer who gets to shoot the Marie Claire spread. Someone pas that along to the network mkay? #3 I was an art teacher, as many of you know.. and one of my favorite parts of the show is just seeing little glimpses of their sketches. Those new little techo sketch pads that they have them using this season, those are pretty sweet. I have notebooks full of sketches of faces and clothes and doodles from way back in the day.

I was kinda sad to see Christiane King was the first to go, After viewing her portfolio of past work I was really looking forward to seeing what she was going to come up with. I too was disappointed in her first design but I think there were at least two others who were probably more deserving of going home, in my humble opinion. But what do I know?

I was however in total agreement with the win of Emilio Sosa. That hot little dress was a masterpiece of his needle and thread skills. I’d shoot it! :D Still trying to find

Any of you junior and senior girls out there sketch fashions? I’d love to see and maybe even showcase some here on the blog.

Speaking of Project Runway….. Holy Smokes!!! Irina Shabayeva, Project Runways latest winner, her studio is just as fierce as her designs. How cool would it be to do a photo shoot there?! Marie Claire took us on a tour of her place in their February issue, I just got mine in the mailbox this morning and I am inspired!!! From amazing flea market finds, to a jaw-dropping showcase of her first catwalk collection… her place has got to be an A M A Z I N G place to work and design. I want my office to feel like that! I am a fan and I can’t wait to see what she does next…
